Artist's Comments

I know this has been done many times before, but I wanted to practice drawing eyes, and explaining how I do stuff to others always makes me really analyse what I do, which helps. :)

I hope you find this useful, and that it's not too full of language mistakes.. Feel free to ask if anything is unclear, or if you have any other questions! And I wouldn't mind a link back here so more people can see it if it inspires you or helps you with a painting. :)

Wow this was an amazing tutorial. Never thought about adding those little white dots to achieve realism, that really helps I think! Thanks!

Awesome, I've never seen a detailed tutorial plus realistic eye before. This is so going in my journal. And :+fav:

It's easier than it looks as long as you use a reference, have a tablet and loads of patience. I spent about two hours just on the eye, a full portrait can take ages.. Thank you! I hope I get to see what you do with this. :D

Wow this look so inspiring, I especially love how you did the wetness on the tiny piece of flesh at the corner of the eye! I 'm gonna try to keep all these in mine the next time I paint! now just need to figure out how to made the brush fade with a mouse..I remember reading it somewhere.. >.<

Great tutorial and the finished product is AMAZING!!!
One thing that has helped me with my eye study was to add a texture from some tree bark at the very end and use the transform tool to curve it around the eye area.
Then I just fiddle with the layer properties and the opacity until it looks natural.
Heres an example with the texture method: [link]
